Technology In the Classroom

In today’s diverse classrooms, meeting the unique needs of every student can feel like a daunting task. Thankfully, technology offers some incredible solutions that can enhance our approach to differentiated instruction. Let’s dive into three powerful tools, i-Ready, Amira, and Freckle, that can truly help us create a more inclusive and engaging learning environment for all students.

One of my favorites is I-Ready! i-Ready is a personalized online learning program that focuses on reading and mathematics. It’s user-friendly, making it easy for both teachers and students to navigate(Curriculum Associates, n.d.). One of the great things about i-Ready is how well it integrates into existing curricula. This platform not only targets essential skills in reading and math and meets students where they are. What really sets i-Ready apart is its ability to adapt to each student’s learning needs(Curriculum Associates, n.d.). The assessments adjust in real-time based on performance, ensuring that every learner is appropriately challenged. Plus, the variety of engaging activities available keeps students motivated and interested. My students love I-Ready and enjoy the different activities they can do.     Next up is Amira, a great AI-powered reading assistant that helps students improve their reading skills through personalized practice and feedback from the teacher. Amira’s makes it easy for students to use independently, which is a huge plus when it comes to my classroom.

Amira excels at differentiation by providing reading passages tailored to each student’s skill level. The platform offers a wide range of texts that cater to diverse interests, ensuring that every student finds something they connect with(Amira Learning, n.d.). For those who are auditory learners, Amira includes read-aloud features, while visual learners benefit from illustrations and activities. My students who are behind in reading really enjoys this app. They are able to be independent and read on their level.

Last but not least, let’s talk about Freckle, an adaptive learning platform that covers math, ELA, science, and social studies. Freckle aligns to Florida Benchmark standards and provides students with extra practice on a variety of topics. Freckle does well adjusting to students by giving  questions based on student ability, making sure that each learner is challenged just right (Freckle Education, n.d.). The engaging content keeps students interested, and it supports various learning styles through interactive elements and visuals. Freckle provides targeted practice exercises to reinforce skills and gives real-time feedback, helping students understand their strengths and areas for improvement(Freckle Education, n.d.). I really love the accountability piece Freckle brings, students are able to check their work and re do lessons if they don't pass.

By integrating tools like i-Ready, Amira, and Freckle into our classrooms, we can effectively support differentiated instruction and empower students to take charge of their own learning . These platforms not only foster engagement but also offer the personalized support that every (Purdue University College of Education, 2024) learner needs to thrive.
